In this publication, Jacques Derrida's conference, originally delivered at the University of Virginia in 1976, and then in Montreal on October 22, 1979, is explored under the direction of Claude Lévesque and Christie V. McDonald. The session, initially part of the seminar "Life and Death" held in 1975-76, has been modified for this new reading. The complete text of the conference can be found in Otobiographies (1984). Following the reading, active debates with Derrida were transcribed for this publication.
