Poetical Works. Byron
The Complete Poems of Lord Byron
Edited by John Jump
George Gordon, Lord Byron, a towering figure of the Romantic movement, was a legend in his own time, famously selling 10,000 copies of The Corsair in a single day. His poetry, renowned for its energy, lyrical beauty, and fierce critique of 'cant political, religious, and moral,' has captivated and scandalized readers across generations.
This edition includes nearly all of Byron's published poems along with the poet's own notes, originally compiled in The Oxford Poets in 1896 and included in the Oxford Standard Authors series in 1904.
The text has been meticulously revised by John Jump, Professor of English Literature at the University of Manchester, who has made substantive corrections while honoring the preferences of the original editor, Frederick Page. Additionally, Jump has included the fragment of a seventeenth canto of Don Juan that was unavailable to the previous editor.
