Rupert C. Brooke

Brooke was a prominent English poet associated with influential literary circles such as the Bloomsbury Group, the Georgian poets, and the Dymock poets, which also included figures like Robert Frost and Edward Thomas. He gained recognition for his poignant war sonnets, particularly "The Soldier," which convey strong feelings of patriotism and the hopeful idealism of youth amid the harrowing backdrop of war. Brooke's youthful charm led to admiration from his peers, with W. B. Yeats famously describing him as "the handsomest young man in England." He joined the British Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in February 1915, tragically passing away in Egypt just two months later.
